At the career dinner table, you must feed your network to truly understand your net worth. Like a tree, it thrives when watered with value and withers when neglected.

Yet, many of us hesitate to put ourselves out there. We avoid conferences, large gatherings, or even a simple one-on-one conversation. But here's the truth: your next big break won’t come from staying in the shadows.

Success isn’t just about talent or hard work. As Roman philosopher Seneca put it, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” 🍀

Ever had an old acquaintance message you—only to ask for a favor in the same breath? That’s not networking—that’s transactional opportunism. A strong network isn’t about taking—it’s about giving. Instead of asking, "What can I get?", ask, "What can I give?"

Personally, I make it a point to add value to my mentors, coaches, and peers—not just take. I pay it forward with interest.

A strong network amplifies your reach, but it won’t carry you if you bring nothing to the table. That’s where preparation comes in. Your passion, shaped by your unique personality and experiences, becomes your competitive advantage. But passion alone won’t cut it—you need relentless practice to turn it into mastery. And when passion and mastery merge, preparation is born.

But here’s the catch: Confidence alone isn’t enough—if no one sees your craft, it won’t translate into success. Nearly every major career move and international relocation I’ve made came from excelling at my craft and catching the attention of the right person at the right time.

As you grow, your network will evolve. The people around you should reflect your ambitions. If your environment no longer aligns with your goals, it’s time to pivot.
