Talking is natural. Reading is not.

Yet reading is one of the greatest superpowers our brain can learn. Reading, which started over 5,000 years ago, can literally rewire your brain depending on the topic you choose.🔥

Reading is a trained habit, not an instinct. When we read, we light up multiple regions of the brain and strengthen our ability to visualize, connect ideas, and think critically.

As a kid, I loved books about dragons and science fiction. I created high-definition movies in my mind better than any IMAX movie could imagine. Later, I drifted away from reading, then returned to it in university where I experienced something remarkable.

I reached a phase where I was regularly setting curves on tests and achieving 4.0 GPA semesters. During that time, I practiced speed reading with what I call learning to "trust" the power of your mind. I got to a point where I could glance at a page and comprehend, visualize, and recall everything written.

We are all capable of this. As children, we are taught to read aloud. That habit often stays with us as a quiet voice in our head that pronounces every single word. The secret is to look, allow your eyes to move, and trust your brain to absorb.

The BBC documentary I watched recently explored how our digital world trains us to skim. We scroll, swipe, and sample. We become fast consumers rather than deep thinkers. Deep reading is different. It invites reflection, focus, and true comprehension.

When I first practiced speed reading, I felt tired and sleepy. I now realize my brain was rewiring to a new pattern of processing. Today, one of my favorite activities with my daughter is to read a chapter of a book on character, principles, or self-knowledge, then write a short reflection and an affirmation on what we will do differently. It has become a beautiful way to connect, understand how she thinks, and have her teach me life lessons. 💛🤓

This week, choose deep reading. With a child, a loved one, or a friend, pick a book that stretches your mind. Read a chapter, reflect, and write what you learned and what action you will take.

Trust your brain to handle everything your eyes have seen.✨

Love this practice because it will strengthen your mind, deepen your connections, and expand your ability to serve humanity's well-being.
